WordPress offers its users an online store with several plugins and some of them have malicious vulnerabilities. This platform is frequently the target of impersonators and other cybercriminals. because it might be the most popular website builder.
The developers have also advised Webmasters and other admins to check which version their site is running. Verification is necessary to make sure that you cannot be targeted. TechRadar reports that some of the issues were so severe that if exploited, attackers could have taken control of the entire site along with other minor issues that required administrator access to be misused.
Earlier reports suggested that a specific WordPress plugin named SEO “All in One” had not been patched at that time. This left over 800,000 WordPress websites left vulnerable to the takeover vulnerability.
There were other reports of another vulnerability in some of the starter models that included Elementor, Gutenberg, and Beaver Builder plugins. This put over millions of sites at risk as this vulnerability allowed contributor level users to embed malicious JavaScript and completely overwrite any page on the site.
In another case, there was a plugin that also had a serious flaw. It was the “Email Preview for WooCommerce” plugin that could have allowed attackers to take over the site if it had not been fixed. The report adds that the plugin has been used by over 20,000 sites.
